Why I created the surrender series

My own journey through trauma, chronic stress and eventual healing was the inspiration behind The Surrender Series. I have been working with the word SURRENDER since 2021 with an intention to be less reactive, more balanced and more at ease in my body.  Surrender to me represents self compassion, self awareness of needs, nervosu system regulation and acceptance.  After years of living in a state of survival, I came to understand just how powerful it can be to reconnect with the body, to learn the language of the nervous system, and to cultivate a sense of inner safety. I also realised how many others were carrying similar burdens, often quietly, often feeling alone without the tools or support to find their way back to balance. The Surrender Series grew from a heartfelt wish to offer what I wish I had found sooner: safe, supportive spaces to learn, to feel, and gain more somatic awareness in group spaces.  I wanted others ot feel the power of co-regulation and a space where you can feel seen, heard and not judged.

Through workshops, support groups, webinars and other offerings, The Surrender Series shares practical, accessible approaches for nervous system regulation and emotional wellbeing. It brings together somatic practices, trauma informed education and self compassion in a way that is gentle, empowering and deeply human. At its heart, this work is about helping people come home to themselves with more awareness, more balance and more ease. Everything I offer is grounded in lived experience, and guided by the belief that being the best version of ourselves is not only possible, it is our birthright.

Who would benefit? Who is it for?

The Surrender Series offers something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a one off workshop, a webinar, a longer course or simply wish to try something new, each offering is unique and covers a variety of topics with trauma informed practice, somatics and nervous system regulation at the core.

I regularly offer these sessions within the community, as well as in companies, organisations, for teams and small private groups.

The intention is to learn new skills, gain new knowledge and create a personal toolkit that helps you become less reactive, more balanced, more aware of your body and better able to manage the pressures of life.  You do not need to have experienced trauma, just have experienced life and the bumpy ride it can be.

The theoretical foundations:

This series is grounded in an integrative theoretical base, drawing from neuroscience, trauma informed psychotherapeutic/psychoeducational models, and mind–body (somatic) practices. It brings together a range of integrative approaches that support more awareness, growth. regulation, and increased nervous system resilience.

We will explore (just naming a few and these can vary depending on the course, webinar or session):

  • Nervous System Theory
Understanding how the autonomic nervous system responds to stress, safety, and connection helps us make sense of emotional states and supports more effective self- and co-regulation.
  • The Window of Tolerance (Dan Siegel)
A clear and practical model that helps identify when we are in a balanced, resilient state and what supports us in returning there when we move into overwhelm or shut down.
  • Polyvagal Theory (Stephen Porges)
Offers a powerful lens for understanding the body’s response to threat and safety. This theory underpins many body-based and relational approaches to trauma recovery.
  • Somatic Approaches (an integrative approach)
These integrative, body based practices recognise that trauma is held in the body. By tuning into physical sensations, we can gently support regulation, release, and integration. I have trained with various professionals in this field inclduing Bessel Van Der Kolk, Peter Levine, Arielle Svhwartz and more; they have inspired my approach. The series explores somatic approaches emphasising the importance of tuning into bodily experience to recognise and release stored stress, helping to restore nervous system balance and support healing.
  • The Impact of Stress from a Nervous System Perspective
The body responds to perceived threat through automatic states such as fight, flight, or freeze. When stress becomes overwhelming or ongoing, the nervous system can struggle to return to balance. This helps us understand trauma not just as an event, but as a lasting imprint on the nervous system and why some patterns of response can feel so hard to shift.
  • Mindfulness
A key foundation for present-moment awareness. Mindfulness enhances interoception (awareness of internal states), reduces reactivity, and builds emotional flexibility.
  • Compassion Focused Interventions (Paul Gilbert, compassion focussed therapy and commpassionate mind training)
Bringing together neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, and Buddhist psychology, this approach helps build inner safety, reduce shame, and strengthen the compassionate self.
  • Trauma Theory
Drawing from psychological, neurobiological, attachment, family systems and relational research, trauma theory provides an essential foundation for understanding the lasting impact of trauma and how healing occurs through connection, safety, and integration.

The Origins of the Surrender Series

  • The Surrender Series was first developed at the end of 2022, with the initial courses running in 2023.
  • My intention was to create a safe enough, trauma informed space where individuals could learn, co-regulate, and connect with others.
  • The early courses focused on key themes including trauma awareness, nervous system regulation, somatic practices, embodiment, and mindfulness.
  • I began by offering two hour sessions, once a month, over a four month period.
  • As the series evolved, these sessions were extended to three and then four hours to allow more time for reflection, discussion, and integration.
  • Following the first full run in 2023, I reviewed and revised the material to incorporate new insights and resources gained through ongoing professional development.
  • By 2025, the series had grown significantly both in depth and structure, reflecting all I had learned and experienced over several years of study and facilitation.
  • This most current version is the foundation for the new and expanded Surrender Series, launching in 2026, and I’m truly excited to share it with you.

The 2026 NEW Surrender series

Are you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns of nervous system dysregulation?

The Surrender Series is a carefully designed, trauma informed series that supports you to regulate your nervous system, reconnect with your body, and build greater emotional resilience and presence in daily life.

This series offers a flexible mix of workshops, webinars, a monthly connection group, and other resources, so whether you’re seeking deep immersive work or something more accessible and ongoing, there’s something here for everyone. You can choose how you engage, based on your needs, preferences and capacity.

Through gentle, embodied practices and a supportive learning space, you’ll explore how stress and trauma affect the nervous system, and how somatic tools can help you return to a sense of safety, regulation, and connection.

Whether you’re new to this work or looking to deepen your understanding, the Surrender Series offers accessible, compassionate guidance to help you feel more grounded, supported, and whole.

What is nervous system dysregulation?

Nervous system dysregulation happens when the body struggles to return to a calm, balanced state after stress or threat. It’s a common result of chronic stress or unresolved trauma and can affect how we feel, think, behave and connect with others.

You may be experiencing dysregulation if you notice:

  • Feeling constantly on edge, anxious or unable to relax
  • Shutting down emotionally or physically (numbness, fatigue)
  • Sudden mood changes or emotional outbursts
  • Trouble sleeping, resting, or focusing
  • Feeling overwhelmed by everyday tasks or relationships
  • Patterns of overworking, people-pleasing, or avoidance
  • Difficulty trusting your body or feeling safe in it

These responses are not faults or flaws, they are protective patterns your nervous system has learned in order to keep you safe. The Surrender Series helps you meet those patterns with compassion, and gently support your body in finding regulation again.

Why nervous system regulation matters

Regulation is the process of helping your body return to a sense of balance, safety and connection after stress. It doesn’t mean feeling calm all the time, it means becoming more flexible and able to move through life’s ups and downs without getting stuck.

Benefits of nervous system regulation can include:

  • Greater emotional stability and resilience
  • Improved sleep, digestion and focus
  • Reduced anxiety and overwhelm
  • More ease in relationships and communication
  • A deeper sense of safety in your body
  • The ability to pause and respond, rather than react

What is somatic work and how does it help?

Somatic work brings attention to the body and its felt experience, helping you reconnect with sensations, emotions, and internal cues in a safe and supported way.

It offers a path to healing that doesn’t require retelling trauma stories or intellectual analysis. Instead, it works with the nervous system directly—allowing space for integration, regulation, and rest.

Through somatic practices, you may experience:

  • A stronger connection to your body and inner cues
  • More self-trust and internal safety
  • A shift from survival-based patterns to embodied presence
  • A renewed sense of wholeness and self-compassion

A Space to Reclaim, Reconnect and Remember

In a world where women’s voices are often silenced or shaped to fit, there is a quiet and powerful call to return to the truth that lives in the body.

Finding your voice is not about performance. It is not about being louder. It is about coming home to your breath, your body, and your lived experience.

Through gentle, body-led practices, we explore the voice as a path to deeper connection — to ourselves, to our boundaries, and to our sense of belonging.

This is a space to feel, to soften, to sound, and to be heard — at your own pace, in your own time.

You are not too much. You are not too emotional, too quiet, too loud, or too sensitive.

You are whole, and your voice matters.

Workshop Overview

Find Your Voice is a trauma informed monthly workshop for women exploring voice through the body. Each session combines somatic movement, breathwork, and vocal exploration to support:

  • Nervous system regulation
  • Embodied self-awareness
  • A more free, grounded, and expressive voice

These workshops are consent-based, accessible, and require no previous vocal experience. They are open to all women, inclusive of all identities and lived experiences.

Why Voice and the Nervous System?

Your voice is deeply connected to your breath, your emotions, and your sense of safety. When the nervous system is under stress, the voice can tighten, shake, or become silent.

The vagus nerve plays a central role in this system — influencing breath, digestion, heart rate, and emotional tone. Practices such as humming, chanting, breathwork, and grounding support vagal tone, and in doing so:

  • Help regulate anxiety, overwhelm, and freeze states
  • Create a felt sense of inner safety
  • Allow for clearer, more authentic self-expression

By combining voice with body-led awareness, these sessions create a space to explore sound not as performance, but as presence.

Workshop Dates and Themes

All sessions take place from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm

Trauma informed practice training

Trauma informed training for professionals (all genders if offered online or for private bookings, community in person training is women only)

I have worked in the social sector for over twenty years across a wide range of areas including mental health, substance misuse, counselling, eating disorders, early years education and community justice (to name a few). I have also worked with corporate companies offering coaching and training to empower and educate their employees.  Having spent much of my career on the frontline of the social sector, I have a deep understanding of the importance of a trauma informed approach in all areas of practice.

Throughout my training I share my lived experience of championing trauma informed working and supporting individuals and teams to embed this approach in their everyday practice. I currently work in community justice as a social worker within a therapeutic, trauma informed team, and I also offer trauma informed services through my business KOA.

I am trained in trauma informed practice to a specialist level and have a strong understanding of how trauma impacts individuals at a nervous system level.  My approach integrates this knowledge to promote safety, empowerment, inclusivity and acceptance.

In my view, trauma informed practice should underpin all professional work. Living in Scotland, I recognise the national ambition to create a trauma informed workforce, as outlined in the Scottish Government’s Trauma Informed Practice Toolkit. This approach recognises that trauma is widespread and can have a significant effect on people’s wellbeing, relationships and engagement with services. A trauma informed way of working ensures that professionals across all sectors understand the impact of trauma and respond in ways that promote safety, trust, empowerment and recovery, rather than risk re-traumatisation. It is about creating compassionate and inclusive environments where people feel valued and supported, regardless of their experiences.

Important information

All the surrender offerings can be booked for teams, companies, organisations and small groups. I also offer regular online trainings for the community.  Please contact me for an informal connection call to discuss costs and details.

Tauma informed principles:

• Safety – ensuring people feel physically and emotionally safe in all interactions
• Trustworthiness – building relationships based on honesty, reliability and transparency
• Choice – supporting individual autonomy and offering meaningful options wherever possible
• Collaboration – working alongside people as equal partners in decision making and service design
• Empowerment – recognising and building on people’s strengths, resilience and capacity for recovery

I am passionate about trauma informed practice and about bringing this important approach to life in the workplace. I have developed a variety of 4 part training programmes that offer professionals the opportunity to explore and understand trauma informed practice in depth. The sessions can be delivered as online webinars or in person as needed (for private bookings).

During these trainings, participants will have the opportunity to:

• Gain a clear understanding of what trauma informed practice is
• Learn about the key principles of trauma informed working, including safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment
• Explore ways to integrate trauma informed approaches across all areas of work, from management to employees
• Understand how trauma informed practice can be empowering for individuals and teams
• Reflect on the barriers, challenges and difficulties that may arise when working in a trauma informed way
• Share experiences and develop practical solutions to help overcome these challenges

These 4 part trainings provides an invitational and supportive space for professionals to learn, reflect and grow. It aims to help create workplaces that are compassionate, inclusive and better equipped to support the wellbeing and development of everyone within them.

What to expect from training:

During these trainings, you will (not exhaustive):

  • Gain an understanding of trauma informed principles and how they apply in different professional contexts
  • Have space to reflect as a group and explore how trauma informed practice can be integrated into your own work
  • Develop an understanding of what trauma is and what it is not
  • Learn about how the nervous system responds to trauma and how this influences behaviour and interactions
  • Explore the different levels and impacts of trauma
  • Recognise the importance of inclusion in creating safe and supportive environments for everyone

Somatic movement workshops

Somatic Movement Workshop

Join me, Cori, for a powerful and nourishing somatic movement workshop. These workshops can be booked for small or large groups.

Together, we will explore a wide range of somatic practices supported by varied music to help guide and deepen your experience. This is an invitation to reconnect with your body, release held tension, and return to your natural state of flow and presence.

Through practices such as shaking, tapping, yoga, free movement and intuitive dance, you will begin to listen more deeply to the wisdom of your body and explore what it truly means to feel safe, grounded and alive.

Important information

All the surrender offerings can be booked for teams, companies, organisations and small groups. Please contact me for an informal connection call to discuss costs and details.

Workshop Format Example

  • We begin with a gentle somatic check-in and body scan to tune in to what is present in your body right now.
  • I will guide you through a self-holding practice, a nurturing way to bring warmth and support to yourself by gently placing your hands on areas of the body that need comfort and grounding. This practice helps regulate the nervous system and encourages safety within your own touch.
  • Next, we start moving gently with slow, mindful movement to awaken awareness and connection.
  • Then comes the invitation to explore freely where your body wants to take you, moving, shaking, tapping, dancing—to release tension, energise, and reconnect with your natural rhythm.
  • We finish with a calming lying down meditation and integration period, allowing your body and nervous system to settle and absorb the shifts you have experienced.

Workshop duration is typically between 90 minutes and 3 hours, to be agreed based on the group and setting. Venue details will also be confirmed prior to the workshop.

What We Will Explore

  • Somatic movement and embodied awareness
  • Therapeutic shaking and vibration practices
  • Tapping and gentle body percussion
  • Grounding yoga inspired sequences
  • Intuitive dance and free flowing movement
  • Breath and stillness for integration
  • Music selected to support emotional release and nervous system regulation

What Does Trauma Informed Mean?

Being trauma informed means I honour the full spectrum of human experience and create a space where:

  • You are always in choice
  • Nothing is forced or expected
  • Consent and boundaries are respected
  • There is no pressure to perform or share
  • Emotions are welcomed and supported without judgement
  • Safety, grounding and self regulation are prioritised

Benefits of Somatic Practices

  • Release stress and stored tension from the body
  • Improve nervous system regulation
  • Reconnect with your body and emotions
  • Cultivate a deeper sense of safety and presence
  • Improve sleep, digestion and emotional resilience
  • Access joy, creativity and inner freedom

What People Are Saying

“That was so fun!”
“I did not realise how much tension I was holding.”
“I want to start shaking every day.”

These are just a few reflections from people who have joined me in previous workshops. It is always a joy to witness these shifts.

Inspired by the Work of Leading Somatic Practitioners:

  • Dr Peter Levine – Founder of Somatic Experiencing and expert in trauma and nervous system healing
  • Dr Bessel van der Kolk – Author of The Body Keeps the Score, exploring how trauma is stored in the body
  • Pat Ogden – Founder of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
  • Deb Dana – Developer of Polyvagal informed therapy

Whether you are completely new to somatic practices or have been exploring for a while, this workshop offers a gentle, powerful space for healing, expression and transformation.

My Approach

I work primarily in group settings, where the power of shared experience and co-regulation allows us to feel seen, heard, and supported. My approach combines nervous system education with mindfulness, somatic movement, breathwork, and trauma-informed care.

I have trained with leaders in the field such as Bessel van der Kolk, Peter Levine, Arielle Schwartz, and Scott Lyons. With over 350 hours of yoga teacher training and a deep-rooted practice in somatic work, I am passionate about helping people feel safer, more at home, and more alive in their own bodies.

Through compassionate guidance, I aim to teach you how to listen deeply to your body, understand your emotional patterns, and build a practice of self-regulation and self-compassion that supports long-term wellbeing.

What Participants Have Said:

“I left feeling more in tune with myself than I have in years.”
