Aerial yoga:
Benefits of Gentle Yoga in Silks:
Deep relaxation
The silk supports the body so that muscles can fully release tension. This encourages a deep sense of calm and helps reduce physical and mental stress.
Improved flexibility
The gentle support of the silk allows for gradual stretching without overextending. Over time, it helps increase range of movement safely and comfortably.
Reduced pressure on joints and spine
By supporting body weight, the silk relieves pressure on the joints and spine. This makes poses easier to hold and can ease discomfort in the back, hips and knees.
Better circulation and energy flow
Slow, supported movements and light inversions help stimulate circulation and encourage a balanced flow of energy through the body.
Enhanced body awareness
The gentle rocking and floating sensations heighten awareness of movement and balance. This can improve coordination and connection between body and mind.
Stress relief and emotional balance
Being suspended creates a feeling of lightness and safety, which helps calm the nervous system. Many people find the experience soothing and grounding.
Improved posture and alignment
As the silk supports the body in proper alignment, it helps release tight muscles and retrain postural habits without force.
Accessibility
Gentle aerial yoga can be adapted for most abilities. The silk can be adjusted in height and tension to provide more or less support, making it inclusive and approachable. Any concerns about your ability to take part in sessions contact Laura: https://www.consciousyoga.uk
Sound:
A sound bath provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in a tranquil space and experience a variety of soothing sounds. Singing bowls, gongs, Tibetan bowls, chimes, and more are used to promote a sense of stillness, serenity, and grounding. Sound baths are an excellent method to unwind, rejuvenate, and release any built-up tension. Research indicates that sound is a rapid and effective way of engaging with the restorative parasympathetic part of your nervous system. My sound baths incorporate guided themed meditation and poetry. The therapeutic use of sound has been practiced in numerous cultures for thousands of years. Some client testimonial have included, ‘I feel so rested’, ‘I fell asleep’, ‘I feel so calm.’
In 2023 I experienced an aerial sound bath in London and in that moment knew I had to bring this offering to Edinburgh. I have been offering aerial sound baths in Edinburgh since early 2024. Join me and an aerial specialist for a one-of-a-kind experience. You will have the opportunity to connect with the aerial silks, envelop yourself, and experience a comforting embrace. Each session is unique, however you can anticipate gentle movements in the silks accompanied by live sound. This immersive experience is truly extraordinary.
It is a beautiful way to embrace relaxation and naturally connect with the parasympathetic nervous system.

Aerial Sound Bath Benefits Through a Nervous System Lens:
- Shift from Sympathetic to Parasympathetic State
Suspension in the hammock creates a sense of safety and weightlessness, signaling the body to shift from stress (fight/flight) into parasympathetic rest-and-digest mode, promoting relaxation. - Vagus Nerve Stimulation
Low-frequency sounds and vibrations stimulate the vagus nerve, supporting calming processes like lowering heart rate, improving digestion, and restoring a sense of safety. - Felt Safety and Co-regulation
The hammock provides physical support, offering a safe, contained environment that signals the body it’s safe to release tension and enter a healing state. This can foster non-verbal co-regulation with others in the space. - Ventral Vagal Activation
The soothing sounds and gentle motion promote ventral vagal activation, linked to calm, connection, and emotional stability—key for healing and integration. - Reduction of Sensory Overload
The hammock reduces external stimuli, offering a sensory-controlled environment that can help reset the nervous system, especially for those sensitive to overstimulation. - Enhanced Interoception and Body Awareness
Vibrations from sound and the hammock help cultivate awareness of internal body sensations (interoception), building nervous system literacy and aiding emotional regulation.
Some additional information:
Crystal Singing Bowls have a strong, clear resonance, which have become popular as a tool to support personal wellness, meditation practices, and healing in the complimentary medicine sector. Each has a different tone and properties, often aligned with the 7 chakras. Crystal bowls have been used for healing since the 1980’s. Like Tibetan bowls, they can be used for sound therapy and healing, their calming and rich tones offer listeners an opportunity to release tension, relax and feel energised.
Tibetan bowls and their use a therapeutic tools, date back to thousands of years. Tibetan singing bowls are made out of metal and are different sizes. Each bowl creates its own sound or vibration which calms the mind and connects with different parts of the brain. The vibrations can often also be felt in different parts of the body and endure a deep feeling of relaxation and release.
Drums have a powerful effect on the nervous system and are often used to release blocked emotions. Drums have been used for thousands of years in various cultures and are often linked with shamanism practices.
